What is a Chiropractic Adjustment?

A chiropractic adjustment is applying manual pressure to the spine. Dr. Hafer pinpoints and applies pressure to the area where the chiropractic patient feels pain or lack of mobility.
A chiropractic adjustment is applying pressure to the specific vertebrae on the spine of a patient.
This relieves pain and improves body function.

A chiropractic adjustment. Also referred to as spinal manipulation, is a common chiropractic treatment. The chiropractor applies manual pressure on your spine to restore motion and relieve pain. It’s a gentle process that decreases pain and improves body function.

We are thorough at Allegan County Chiropractic because our patients deserve the best possible chiropractic care. I take x-rays of your spine (unless you’re pregnant) so I can be certain what’s happening in your spine.

Why Chiropractic X-Rays?

Just like a dentist takes X-rays to see what’s happening below the gum line, I need to see your spine to rule out contraindications of chiropractic adjustments. Then we go over your X-rays, so you also know what’s happening in your body.

I believe it’s important for my patients to understand what’s causing their pain. We can then work together to improve your ability to function better in your daily life.

After we’ve looked at the X-rays and I’ve explained what’s going on, I have you lie on your stomach on my chiropractic table. This step is sometimes painful if a patient comes in to see me with a high degree of immobility. I may have you lie with heat or ice to calm down the inflamed area.

As I’m adjusting you there may be “pops” or “cracks,” but those sounds aren’t your spine. Those sounds are gasses escaping from the joint space.

Adjustments Decrease Pain, Increase Mobility

My patients usually feel less pain after a few visits. If you feel sore or tired I want to know! Every one of us is unique and our bodies respond differently.

Each of my patients is important to me. Chiropractic is the least invasive means of healing the human body. It’s great for pain management, improving mobility, and healing after an injury. Our bodies go through a lot every day. It’s up to us to care for them.

We only get one spine for our lifetime. Sports injuries, chronic diseases, poor posture, headaches, and more can be helped with chiropractic adjustments. Gentle chiropractic care is a simple, non-invasive, non-painful technique that can treat a number of issues, problems, and diseases.
